For Malaysian owners, this issue have been a major talking point within the owners of the 650 parallel engines.
Engine were blowing left and right!! Most of the case, a broken exhaust valve ( if i am not mistaken) was the culprit. A couple of my riding buddies experience this issue and it's not a cheap fix. Cost of repairs started from RM5k upwards to RM15k depends on the damage engine. This has made the price of the bike in the used market plummet down so badly. Everybody is selling off their bikes.
A group of Versys Owner Group (VOG) Malaysia has taken up the issue to Kawasaki Malaysia and after some meeting and some help from the media, Kawasaki Malaysia has made a recall to all owners of ER6N/F Versys from year 2010 and above to have their engine valve check and change the exhaust valve for free. With this check also, an additional 20,000km or 2 years warranty was given to bike that has been given the bike check up.Facebook link..
I have sent my purple fella yesterday afternoon and supposed to pick up later this afternoon. Let's hope everything is gonna be alright. So many negative feedback has been received after fellow bikers has send their bikes for this check up. Poor workmanship by Kawasaki was very eminent by the amount of faulty and sloppy assemble back of the check items. Some complains of leaking of oil on coolant after the bikes were picked up. I just think is just doing a job for the sake of doing it.

ReplyDeleteGet Kawasaki to share cost..take the bike to them. They will usually pay up to 70% of the cost of the replacement. Then u sell off the bike..Crap man this issue..

Yes bro..do contact them. if your bike is at a workshop, ask your workshop to send the bike there. and they will check and offer you to change a new engine. they will pay the 70% and u have to pay only 30%..do it bro..i had the same taught when this happens..i said to my self i should waited longer and just buy the z8..now i am stuck with the er6 as selling it would be a huge lost of money as its value has drop so badly since this issue happened. Now just pakai till its fully paid for..But i must say..my er6n is a tough bike..touch wood..good daily rider..good luck with Kawasaki..dunt call them..u will never get through the number. just go straight to the hq in shah alam..

I am looking for one er6n for quite sometime. after doing research in the net, i came to know that er6n got this valve issue,which is quite scary man. i do not want to buy a new one, and in fact i am looking for an used one, probably year 2010 model. so, do you really think is worth the buy? after all this scary issue?i really like this bike but i now doubt the reliability because of this issue. as i use my bike to commute to work, i am looking for a reliable machine. please advise.thank you

So far I never have an issue with my m/c, I usually travel alot in the Philippines Islands. I am also the one maintaining my bike like change oil including oil filter every 4k km, change spark plug, replacing air filters and now using K & N. I also installed a two bros and Juice box pro to my bike.
ReplyDeleteIn our fb page, Pinoy Ninja, we never had any issue for this except for one 2011 who runs at 55,750km odo reading in the intake/exhaust valve but probably other issue why this things happened. In our group, majority of us are using, Ninja 650, er6n and versys...er6n and versys was only introduced last year...
This information who had was a big help for us Kawasaki owners in the Philippines at least, we have something as a reference/guide if this problem will occur to our er6n and Versys 650...As for your info also, all our 650 bikes came/manufactured in Thailand.
Hope we can resolve this issue soon....Credit to the one who posted this information!!!
Still I can say, all the Kawasaki Owners are happy with the performance of our m/c in the Philippines!!!

So far I never have an issue with my m/c, I usually travel alot in the Philippines Islands. I am also the one maintaining my bike like change oil including oil filter every 4k km, change spark plug, replacing air filters and now using K & N. I also installed a two bros and Juice box pro to my bike.

Amazing I am not from Malezia but have the same problem in my country.
ReplyDeleteIn the highway while riding suddenly a loss of power on an excellent bike with perfect engine' which later on find to be a broken valve out of the sky.
I happened a lot but no one has done anything about it, I think I may be the one with initiative to pick the issue up.

I've experience the same thing. Purchase the bike end of 2012. The engine burst 2 months ago. Total repair cost was RM10,800. The burst made a hole through the cylinder head, block, engine cover, broken piston rod, valve infused into the piston face, broken oil pump. The engine burst while I'm riding at 90km/h.

ReplyDeleteDear all, I got the same problem too. My 2012 ER6n engine blown while riding around 100km/h. The mileage was 37,139 km. Sent to workshop, the mechanics confirmed that the culprit is one of the exhaust valve infused into the piston surface. Total repair cost is RM10,484.00 including registration with JPJ and inspection by Puspakom for the new engine cover replacement. It took 5 month for the whole process, repairing and authority matter.

DeleteFirst, ask nice to the shop or the owner. The asked for the logbook. if its done by Kawasaki malaysia during the recall, it should have a sticker. Oh yeah, check the fork, there is a mark, like a small marking they make when the bike have done the change. Also when your start the bike, here for any rattling sounds on the engine valve head. too noisy, walk away bro..

hi...i just bought er6-f 2010. but there is no Health Check sticker on the bike. i believe last owner did not sent for recall inspection. would be 2010 model having same issues too?

ReplyDeleteEr6 is an easy bike to handle with very good power from the low end to mid range as promised. But this valves issue is the nightmare for every owner of it. One year after many fun rides, my ER6 model 2012 had the issue at 30k km milage. It is found that the stock valve installed at Thailand were not as good as the Japanese. I was quoted about RM20k by Kawasaki Malaysia for the repair (almost to change 95% of the parts in the engine). Later I took home the bike and parked at home to look for alternative solution. After a year, at 2014 I managed to find a total lost er6 due to crash and bought the engine to give life to my bumble bee. Then I took back to Kawasaki to replace the valves with Heath check program. Did diy vc at 65k km and now still running 75k km. My suggestion to change the exhaust valves by 80k km milage as told by other friend who owned a 2008 versys cbu Japan and his bike's valves fail at 110k km milage. This happen due to high tension of the valves spring for the mid range performance bike. Whatever it is, I still love my bubble bee as it one of the rival naked bike on the road nowdays.
